Driving your business forward with social media

Autumn is very firmly here, although we are have been really lucky to be enjoy some late summer sunshine, I hope that everyone is now settled back to normality post the lovely summer holidays.

This month I was really fortunate to attend the CIM Digital Summit at the British Museum and got some great inspiration.  Further to the Google update back in April where they were encouraging all websites to be mobile responsive,  it is estimated that by the end of this year over half your web traffic will be either via a phone or IPAD, so if your website is not responsive then I encourage you to review this.  We also heard about the great digital transformation that the Post Office is going through; How the Metropolitan Police are using social media to engage with their local communities;  we will see some exciting things from the Direct Line Group in the next few months and we heard about Sky’s Entertaining Marketing strategy, an easy job to do if you have such great content.

Social Media without a doubt had a place to play in the success of all of the campaigns mentioned at the summit and are absolutely essential to a business of any size in todays market place.  This is true in particular for the small business as it is not only economical (apart from the time you spend browsing) it can be very successful if done really well.

New markets representing new investments in industry and seed money for business represented by a tree made of cogs and gears that are flaoting finding different opportunities.

Social media definitely has its place along side your other harvest mechanics and is a great way to build your awareness amongst your target audience.

  1. It is firstly, key initially to understand where you are with your business, what direction you are heading in, what you are trying to achieve and very importantly who your target audience is. Once you know this then you can steer any activity you are focusing on in a combined and joint direction.
  1. Understand the social media market place, there are literally hundreds of social media networks out there and you could spend all of your day just posting, tweeting and commenting on social media networks but will it drive your business?
  1. Once you know where you are, how to get yourself there and then what to write it is a case of implementation of your social media. There are lots of tricks of the trade which once you know are pretty straight forward but sometimes you need a little support.
